Tata Power and Tata Motors collaborate to set up India’s largest solar carport

The upcoming solar carport at Tata Motors' factory will have a capacity of 6.2 MWp and is expected to help the automaker cut down 1.6 lakh ton of carbon emissions in its life time.

And in that vein, we have an announcement from the house of Tata: Tata Power has announced it has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tata Motors to set up India's largest carport. But what's really noteworthy here is that the solar carport, with a capacity of 6.2 MWp, is expected to help Tata Motors cut down 1.6 lakh ton of carbon emissions in its life time.

To be set up at Tata Motors factory in Chikhali, Pune, the decision to set up a grid-connected carport is based on the demonstrated advantages of such infrastructure. They not only help in the context of efficient use of space for solar installations but also help users with the clean production of energy via a renewable source.

Rajesh Khatri. Vice President - PV Operations, Tata Motors, said, "We are looking forward to setting up India’s largest Solar carport with Tata Power as this will help us reduce our carbon emissions. We are extremely excited about the eco-friendly future operations and energy consumption."

Tata Motors is neither the first to commission a solar carport, nor will it be the last. Nonetheless, it is heartening to see automakers undertake such multi-faceted endeavours that agree and/or contribute to the well being of our environment.
