Businesses can be a force for good, they can make life easier for customers, meet unmet needs and bring life changing inventions to society, G.V.Prasad, co-chairman and CEO of Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories said on Friday.
Mr. Prasad, who addressed the graduation ceremony of Indian School of Business’ PGP class of 2019 at the Hyderabad campus, said that underscoring the significance of management professionals to make the right choices. “As you graduate, you will join spectacular companies… will even establish businesses. Take the time to reflect on the company you wish to join or the business you wish to build. What is it that will define you? Is it the creation of wealth for a chosen few or does your purpose lie in being committed to a purpose bigger than and beyond oneself,” he asked.
Highlighting the need to make right choices, Mr.Prasad said businesses can be a force for good and there are also those that turn in a completely different direction.
“They can become all about wealth creation for a chosen few through any and every means possible,” he said, referring to how in the US a company is accused of bribery and fraud to induce doctors to prescribe opioid painkillers. Overuse of the painkillers is leading to serious addiction for a large section of the population in the US, he added.
A total of 598 students of ISB’s Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) graduated at the ceremony, which was also addressed by chairman of ISB Executive Board Harish Manwani and dean Rajendra Srivastava.
